We always have Homemade Almond and Peanut Butter in the fridge at our house. We use them for a bunch of different things and we have it pretty often. Its nice for sandwiches, with sliced apples for a snack or breakfast or even a scoop in a smoothie or protein shake. The only difference between making peanut butter and almond butter is patience, peanut butter comes together in a just a few minutes where as almond butter can take 10-15 minutes depending on how much you are making at a time. Just be patient with it and make sure to stop and scrap the walls of your processor as you go and the natural almond oil will come out of the almonds and it will turn out smooth and lovely without adding anything at all, all I add is a little sea salt. Same as the peanut butter you can add whatever you like, cinnamon, honey or even dark chocolate chips are a few of my favorites. www.wholefoodsmarket.com has a bunch of really good ideas on how to use your almond butter.
Homemade Almond Butter
- 3 Cups of Raw & Organic Almonds
- Sea Salt to Taste
Add everything to your food processor and process, stopping every few minutes to scrape down the sides. The first stage it will turn into almond meal then it will start clinging to the walls, then clumping into a ball, then it will end up being almond butter. When it’s done it will be smooth and warm, it’s a really good idea to have some right away and then store the rest in an air tight container in the fridge, I use a glass jar.
