Some of my favorite things about summer is how green everything is, the flowers in full bloom, the kids outside all day long running the neighborhood, the fresh produce everywhere you turn and the grilling. I will find just about any excuse to grill when the weather is nice, I love being outside and I also love that I don’t have to heat up the oven when the air conditioning is on. I seem to eat a lot more proteins, veggies and fruits in the summer months just because of the fact it’s all so much better in when it’s in season. I do the old standbys, nice big local Ribeye Steaks, Ribs, Chicken Thighs, Shrimp, Salmon and of course veggies galore but sometimes I’ll grill pizzas or breads or even fruit. I love a grilled peach with a balsamic reduction, a scoop of vanilla bean gelato and a sprig of fresh mint from the herb garden. I am always thinking of new Summer Grilling Ideas and ways I can cook whole meals outside whenever possible so we also eat a lot more raw foods when it’s hot out, like salads. It’s also a good idea to have a couple of rubs that you love on hand, I love the Chicago Steak Seasoning and Galena Street Rib & Chicken Rub from www.penzeys.com. We also tend to do a lot of backyard fire pits when the weather is right. We invite our friends over, have a beer or two and make s’mores while the kids catch fireflies.
