When I was living in Austin, Texas I was lucky enough to live right down the street from a beautiful Williams-Sonoma store and I got to attend a cookbook signing for the Beekman 1802 Boys, Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge. After watching their show The Fabulous Beekman boys from the start, which if you haven’t seen yet you are really missing out. I was so happy to see that they were the exact same sweet and down to earth guys in the flesh. When I met them I had just received a wheel of their Blaak Goat’s Milk Artisanal Cheese that I had ordered from their website and we discussed how I had just made some grown up grilled cheese with it and my Basil Compound Butter and Crusty White Bread to go along with my Roasted Tomato Basil Soup, they seemed to like where I went with it and their cheese was delicious by the way. I bought their Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook and instantly fell in love with it. It is not only beautiful but completely thoughtful, so many perfect details from the delicious recipes to the extra pages in the front to write your own recipes and hand down the cookbook to the next generation of your family. They have included so much personality and the Beekman Boys lifestyle into this book it makes you feel as if you have known them all your life.
My favorite cookbooks are almost always the ones that are so pretty to look at that you can pick them up and thumb through them time and time again and they always make you smile, that is a great way to describe this one. The cookbook is divided up into 4 seasonal sections and the photos are really beautiful. It is not only easy to look through but a treat as well. You really get to know them, their home and farm just by looking through this cookbook. So far I have made the Super Moist Corn Bread, the Rosemary Spiced Nuts and the Mulled Cider. All threes recipes were easy, turned out great and I will totally make them again. I plan on making the Double Blueberry Tart next, it mixes the textures of cooked and raw berries and looks gorgeous. Plus the fact that I completely love blueberries in any form makes it a natural next choice for me and I’m sure it will be a hit in this house. I’ll be sure to post a photo as soon as I make it for you all to see.
