I posted my recipe for Pizza Dough the other day and I mentioned my Whole Wheat Honey Pizza Dough and then realized that it wasn’t up yet so here you go. This is just as easy to make and it’s nice to shake things up a bit with something a little better for you too once in a while. I actually prefer this dough more often then not, it smells awesome while it’s baking and has a little more depth. Sometimes I will take two long strips and twist them together and brush them with olive oil to make bread sticks then dip them in Sunday Sauce.
Homemade Whole Wheat Pizza Dough
- 2 Cups Bread flour
- 1.5 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
- 1 Pkg, Dry Yeast (2.25 Tsp.)
- 1.25 Cups Warm Water
- 2 Tbl Olive Oil + Extra to oil the bowl
- 1 Tbl. Honey
- 1 Tsp. Salt
Proof the yeast in the warm water and honey for a few minutes until it starts to bubble and rise. In a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook attachment mix both flours and salt then add the proofed yeast in warm water and honey then add the olive oil. Knead until the dough forms a ball. Place the dough in a well oiled bowl and make sure the top of the dough is oiled too so it doesn’t stick. Cover with plastic wrap and set in a warm spot like the inside of the oven that is turned off. Let it rise for about an hour, it should double in size. Turn out dough onto lightly floured work surface, punch down and divide into 2 equal balls, let them sit for another 10 minutes. Roll out or toss and top with you favorite ingredients and cook on a very hot preheated pizza stone in the oven or on the grill.
